Low Energy House

Architecture for London

An Edwardian terrace in Muswell Hill was extended and refurbished to create a comfortable, low energy house. The original structure of the house was revealed, its modest beauty celebrated. Energy requirements are reduced dramatically by insulating, triple-glazing and improving airtightness. New additions include a rear extension and a loft conversion.

“There are so many straightforward things people can do to make their houses greener, which have meaningful results. We always look for the ‘low-hanging fruit’. For example, we retained our original front door and made it more airtight with simple £10 DIY brush seals all around and a £30 magnetic letterbox seal. If everyone in London did these two things now, the energy saving would be significant.”
