The Judd presents a daring and vibrant reimagining of a Victorian terrace located in Tottenham, London, fashioned into a low-energy home, drawing inspiration from the work of the American artist Donald Judd. Patricia and Gwen, sought a bespoke creation reflecting their passion for art and architecture. The principal design idea emerged from the reinterpretation of Judd's 1963 sculptural piece, 'Untitled,' characterized by concave spaces crafted through arched strips. A key aspect of the project was thermal efficiency and lowering energy consumption by incorporating cork & hemp insulation, while being heated by an air source heat pump using photovoltaic panels. The result is a colourful, sculptural, and sustainable transformation.
“I love the aspect downstairs, sitting here in the lounge and looking all the way into the garden. Having the big window in the garden and a big window in the kitchen. We were looking for somebody to work with what was exciting, that was able to create something special out of something ordinary. The house in general is a really lovely place to be, you can go anywhere and just be happy where you are. There’s nothing about the house that I don’t like.”
