Poirot's Bijou Apartment
Intervention Architecture
City of London, 2025
Complete internal redesign of a micro-apartment within the Art Deco residence Florin Court (built in 1938), the fictional setting for Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ in Charterhouse Square, London, for two Artists. Set at the rear top level of the site, the main approach to our design was a minimal yet homely space, a puzzle piece of reconfigurable joinery for living uses, with ancillary wet spaces of kitchen and bathroom zones that are saturated in different colours - we selected blush pink for the bathroom, and electric blue for the kitchen.
“When we purchased the property we prioritised location over size. We knew that with some good design and quality craftsmanship even a small space could be multifunctional. We approached intervention architecture having been impressed with their designs for a similarly small space at the Barbican next door. After conversations about our hopes and needs for the space their designs and the bespoke carpentry by ian brown have left us with a home far beyond expectations. Our tiny home can transform from a bedroom to a lounge, a dining room or a studio within a few minutes meaning we have a home with all the benefits of an apartment 4 times bigger.”
