Longlisted

Plinth House is a Victorian end-of-terrace house in London that has been transformed into a dynamic family home that celebrates a careful composition of natural materials.

Marsh Keene excavated the ground floor to mediate level changes throughout the sloping site, creating a semi-submerged rear extension wrapped in a continuous brick “plinth”. This sculptural, architectural element has multiple functions built into it as it moves around the ground floor interior and garden, including retaining wall, steps, bench seating for the dining table, and soft seating. A zinc-clad loft extension housing two bedrooms and a bathroom was completed at the same time.
