Longlisted

The client brief set out in 2020 to achieve a cost-conscious but design-led overhaul of their recent purchase - a dilapidated 1950s house with non-compliant internal modifications by the former owner. Their core brief wanted, firstly a whole house overhaul and, secondly, a rear extension in which to improve engagement with the rear garden through the whole ground floor.

Next, they wanted to resolve and reconfigure the first-floor plan to form three bedrooms and a family bath and 4. extend up into the poorly converted roof to form a full-width rear dormer, creating a new second-floor bedroom and shower room. Finally, cost-effective and hard-wearing ‘self-finished’ materials were high on the client's wish list for Peckham House. The client, design team and main contractor worked as a close-knit team throughout to deliver this in 2023.

“It's hard to choose a favourite part from the towering kitchen ceiling of exposed Douglas fir beams, to the “in-your-face" raw feel of the mild steel stairs and balustrades, to the (frankly massive) cantilevered rear sliding door. We love it!”
