North London Terrace

This Victorian terrace house has reconfigured its ground floor through opening up and extending the central and rear areas of the original house.
The level to the rear of the property has been dropped slightly to maximise the ceiling height and to create level access to the garden terrace. A sliding pocket door allows the rear space to be opened up to an external paved terrace and a large window seat makes the most of the garden aspect. In winter the window seat captures the warmth of the sun and in summer it can be completely opened up. Underneath, a hidden panel provides access to a sleeping space and small external pet door for our client’s dog.
Externally the rear extension is largely clad in London Stock Brick to harmonise with the existing context. Inserted into this is an area of charred larch cladding which visually forms a durable outer skin to the softer oak joinery of the interior.
The bathroom to the upper floor of the property has also been reconfigured and refurbished using a simple palette of pale materials and mirrors to maximise light and spaciousness.
