Monochrome House re-invents a previously dark, cellular and inward-looking Victorian house by creating an interconnected open plan that expands into the garden.

Family and quality of life formed the backbone of this project to re-create a house that solves the space needs of today, whilst planning for the sustainable needs of the future. The extensions are intentionally modest in line with the client’s budget yet transformative, creating new flexible spaces where family can both live and work, eat and be. The design and creativity of the house can be read through the material choices and how they complement and contrast with the old. The new is clearly new yet balanced with the original, keeping as much as possible of the old house.
