Lyndhurst Way
House of Design Architects
Southwark, 2024
Longlisted
The client had purchased this Edwardian house with a small side infill extension and a set of corner bifolding doors accessing the garden to accommodate their young, growing family but soon realised the spaces didn't work for their needs as their family grew.
The site is in a Conservation Area and backs onto a park, so the client was interested in a new extension which had a relationship with the park and embraced the diverse range of architectural styles that the Conservation Area encompassed and embraced.
The new extension is articulated internally with an exposed Douglas fir structure with herringbone noggins providing a nod toward the structural techniques found within the floor structure of the original house.
A series of large roof lights in the dining area flood it with light.
“HoD is great to work with, approaching their designs with thought and respect for the existing building. Our plans received consent with no objections despite being in a conservation zone and the design will provide a long lasting, understated addition to the house.”
