Lyndhurst Grove

The design inserted a timber box into the space between two terraced houses. This creates additional bedroom and bathroom spaces.

The ambition was to extend the clients' family home to provide additional bedroom and bathroom spaces. The house is within a conservation area and so presented challenges in terms of where there additional volume could be added. The design introduced a lightweight timber framed extension in the alley between two houses. The extension is supported on only three new columns and does not bare onto the neighbour’s house. This made the construction very simple and cost effective, with a minimal amount of new foundations required. The timber frame and cladding is environmentally friendly and very characterful. Hardwood cladding was chosen for longevity.
