House With 2 Courtyards and 3 Pitched Roofs

The project involved an extension and alterations to a 1920’s end of terrace house. This included the demolition of the existing outrigger to be replaced with a six metre, full width, ground floor rear extension. The extension is clad in ‘fish scale’ natural slates and features three pitched roofs across the rear elevation with two courtyards. 

The brief was to create an urban oasis, where the boundary between inside and out is blurred. The two courtyards break down the threshold between indoor and outdoor spaces, allow for plenty of filtered light and natural ventilation throughout the extension and convey a sense of calm and peace in the middle of London.
