House for a Doctor

The sustainable renovation and remodelling of a Victorian corner shop in the Globe Road Conservation Area, originally constructed by The East End Dwelling Company Ltd, for a cancer research doctor, and his lodgers. Whittaker Parsons completely overhauled of the property which was cramped and unwelcoming. They identified that improvement, not expansion, of space was the solution. Building less, but better, they advocated a retrofit with sustainable, affordable materials at its heart. The emphasis was placed on salvage and reuse of materials, plus thermal upgrade the historic fabric. The house is now transformed into a warm sanctuary for contemporary living.
