Herne Hill

As with many Victorian properties, this house celebrates the front of the house with grander rooms to the front, to the detriment of the spaces to the rear. The brief was achieved by opening the rear of the house, creating a new open space with large windows with an angular rear façade to define views of the garden. 

By moving the utility spaces, R2 Studio Architects afforded more natural light and connectivity through the house. The existing house was fully refurbished and by opening up some of the uninspiring existing spaces, they reintroduced the grandness that the house deserved.
