This project transformed a large, run-down, Georgian townhouse in Islington into a beautiful yet practical and high performing, family home. Retaining much of the original structure and reusing many materials, we added a double-height rear extension as part of a reimagination and modernisation programme. This included opening up the internal spaces, thermally upgrading the entire building using natural materials, and adding a renewable energy heating system. Derived through a rigorous design process, the contextual design balances old and new to provide modern spaces suitable for the next generation whilst also celebrating the home's past.
