First Haus

First Haus is the complete transformation of a large Edwardian terrace house located in West Hampstead.

A stone-grey, oak clad steel staircase can be found at the heart of the house. It leads a winding path through the home to the dormer office, revealing views of the surrounding treetop canopy. Due to the site being north facing, the introduction of a void was a strategic concept to breathe light directly into the centre of the home. Connecting to nature and the trees adjacent to the site was key, this was achieved through deliberate views and maximising glazing to the north.

The inclusion of a triple height void has created a sense of space and volume, which also provides the family with connectivity. The high levels of northern light, help elevate mood whilst avoiding overheating.
