Bodney Road Studios

Bodney Road is the Hackney home and workplace of the young graphic design duo, Polytechnic. Previously the workshop of an eccentric joiner, the dilapidated building was a bricolage of amateur structural interventions and curious alterations. Taken as an object trouvé, these otherwise overlooked details are celebrated and embraced in the design. Split over three levels – garden & studio, residence and rooftop terrace – the project is an exploration of how to create distinctive spaces using inexpensive, raw materials. Bodney Road Studios is an aesthetic response to the clients’ economic restraints, and shows how simple interventions can transform existing spaces.
