The remodelled space in Bay Window House features the addition of a modern staircase completely lined in cherry that connects the Victoriana of the ground floor to the new space below. The extension is designed in the form of a new bay window as a counterpoint to the original bays. The Victorian character of the original house has been restored while thermally upgrading the envelop.

Deep recessed roof lights celebrate light rather than glass. The Victorian character of the original house was restored whilst thermally upgrading the envelope. New bathrooms were formed, each with a different character and a green stained plywood stair leads to light modern loft space. The clients had inherited a very low and dark basement room that had been converted from a cellar by the previous occupants. Rather than waste money and resources on digging out the basement space further, Gundry + Ducker decided to counterpoint it with a much taller adjoining space and celebrate the contrast between tall and low. A semi-circular staircase completely lined in dark cherry links the Victorian world of the original house above to the floor below. The space is intentionally rich and dark with a porthole to view the space beyond. Semi-circular motifs are echoed in the rooflights design.
