This project comprises a ground floor extension, loft extension and full refurbishment of a Victorian terraced house, carried out as a partial self-build in two phases over 14 years. The full-width ground floor extension converts the side return into a courtyard and preserves the form of the main house. The refurbishment and re-built rear addition insulates and re-orientates the house away from a busy road towards a woodland garden. The vertically and horizontally split loft extension overcomes the problem of the low ridge to provide two equal study rooms, sleeping platforms, a shower and a separate WC for two teenagers.
